Francesca Gaza

Francesca Gaza (born 1995) is a Basel-based, Italian and German musician – composer, vocalist, pianist and producer, who is part of Europe’s vibrant Art Scene, participating and collaborating since a very young age with artists from different areas of study such as dance, theater and electronic music. She was awarded the National Italian Composition Prize in 2017, the 1st prize of the Jazzalguer Festival lead by Paolo Fresu in 2018 and was offered a commission by the FHNW Basel for the Women’s March for four Voices, String trio and Piano in 2019. As a bandleader, sidewoman and arranger she is working extensively in Jazz, Antique, Pop and Theater music and has released two albums under her name: “Lilac for People” (2019, Auand Records), “Still, Moving” - Cocoon (2017, Emme Records). Her main projects include her octet “Lilac for People” with which she has toured Italy, Germany, France and Switzerland. She has played in the UK, Romania, and Germany with “Cocoon”, a quartet composed of three avant-guard electronic jazz musicians from Italy. The Basel-based quintet “Katom” is her most recent project involvement. Her collaborations as an arranger and singer see her involved with the acclaimed pop-jazz singer- songwriter VIERI, the electronic-pop band /handlogic and their Album “NobodyPanic”, the duo with Jazzpianist Francesco Orio as well as New York- based drummer Chase Kuesel's freshly released Album “Space Between”. Francesca has graduated from the M.A. in Composition, Performance and production at he Jazzcampus Basel with a Minor in the Antique Music department of Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, mentored by Guillermo Klein, Lisette Spinnler, Jorge Rossy, Luciana Souza, Norma Winstone, and Patrik Zosso, as well as Johannes Menke, Florian Vogt and Ulrike Hofbauer amongst others. She finished her Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Singing in 2017 at the Siena Jazz University in Italy with magna cum laude under the guidance of acclaimed singer Diana Torto, pianist Stefano Battaglia and bassist Daniele Camarda and has a classically trained background in Piano. Currently, she is involved in her post-graduate studies in composition, sound-design and early music.
