Marco Cangiano

A jazz buff for the last 50 years and a proud New Yorker who has maintained his strong Italian roots.

About Me

Born and raised in Italy (Rome), has spent half of his life in the US, where he became a citizen last year. Following a full career with an international financial organization, which involved frequent traveling across the globe, after retirement could at last devote much of his time to his passion for music in general and jazz in particular. Living in between New York and Italy has helped kept his musical horizon quite open. Between 2018 and 2024 has been among the staff writers of The New York City Jazz Record and a regular attendee of concerts in all sort of settings--clubs, concert halls, open air--worldwide.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because of its emotional charge, history, and universality. I was first exposed to jazz some 50 years ago coming from a classic/progressive rock background. The best show I ever attended was probably the Charles Lloyd quartet with Amina Claudine Myers in a very small Italian town with no more than two dozen attendees. The first jazz records I bought were Kind of Blue and Free Jazz--quite a pair.
