Can't Break

Ben Vega

Share

Ben Vega's music is pop music on top of jazz chords with soul voices.

Can't Break is a song about the politics of the dance clubs. The game on the dance floor has rules that are undefined. But a saving grace is a wounded heart can't break.

"This Isn't Love" is a song written after a bitter end to a volatile relationship. Some people tend to go through the brake up experience with self-medication and self-avoidance. Some by spending more time with friends or begin a new hobby, others drink too much; and some choose to get over someone by getting under someone else... far too often under many. That's where this song came from. "This Isn't Love" is about a time when you're looking for love in all the wrong places, hoping any new face is the right face, or at least will help you forget the old face. For those who have loved and lost, or chose to just walk away, you will know exactly where this highly provocative and very personal musical piece is coming from.

"Mr. No-Name from the shadows of an alcoholic haze. Quick embraces in dark places." "This isn't love babe, this is love, this isn't love babe"

This is an updated, complexly soulful, rendition of a classic jazz standard.

Ben Vega has always done just what comes naturally to him. He didn’t attend a fancy school for the arts nor did any topnotch industry professionals train him. Ben taught himself how to play the piano, at the age of seven, on his grandmother’s piano. He learned to sing by mimicking legendary voices such as Frank Sinatra and Mark Murphy. His first performance was with his father and brother, in a family band, which performed exclusively for family events. Ben first performed publicly as a vocalist, in Southern California, while accompanying himself on the piano in local coffee houses and bars while still attending high school.

In 2005, Ben entered and won the KLAC 570am Radio’s Fabulous Finds Contest. He was voted best jazz vocalist by a panel of judges which included Mrs. Miles Davis and got the opportunity to perform at the legendary Catalina’s Bar and Grill, in Hollywood, California.

As an artist, many fellow musicians have inspired him. Most notably are his jazz influences, such as Billie Holliday, who he has always said is his first love, and Mel Torme, as well as newer artists such as Amy Winehouse, Mayer Hawthorne and Joss Stone.

Once considered a jazz singer covering only jazz standards, he has always had a passion for creating music his way, which has been evident in his musical arrangements. He is now writing and producing his own music, inspired by life and heartaches. His sound is passionate, soulful and emotionally rich.

Ben is currently recording and producing his debut album. This exciting debut collection of heart felt recordings feature some of the best musical talents in Southern California. Artists such as guitarist Adrian Vega Jr. from the Disrepair, bassist Roman Arreola from the Beermen, and horn players Vincent Vega and Adrian Vega Sr. from the 3 Generations.

Ben is recording and producing under his own record label, ROCKETMAN RECORDS. Armed with his production company, PINK PACHYDERM PRODUCTIONS, these two companies' goal is to catapult independent artists into the musical atmosphere.

Ben's belief is to take as many talents with him on the way to "the top".
